Below are details i receive from Mr. Hamid majid regarding the upcoming Malaysia Masters Championship 2009
Malaysian Masters Championship 2009 to be held in the second week of August 2009. The Schedule is as follows:
Quarter-Finals Saturday - 08 Aug 2009
Round 1 – 0900 DATCC
Round 2 – 1500 DATCC
Sunday – 09 Aug 2009
Round 3 – 0900 DATCC
Round 4 – 1500 DATCC
The Semi-Final dates will be
given later.
Composed of 8 players, the winner will be declared the Malaysian Champion 2009. The players invited
to participate in this tournament if their name is on the top 5 Malaysian players on the FIDE July (2009) Rating list.
The event itself will be a 8 man knock-out tournament. The 8 players will consist of:
1) The 4 top rated players FIDE
July 2009 Rating List
2) The 2 top players (first
& second) from the recently concluded National Closed
3) The top Junior player (Under
21) from the National Junior Championship 2008
4) 1 player selected by the
Malaysian Chess Federation
The tournament will be conducted
in 3 rounds as follows:
Quarter
Finals ( 8 players) 4 games with reverse colours over 2 days
Semi
Finals ( 4 players ) 4 games with reverse colours over 2 days
Finals
( 2 players ) 6 games with reverse colours over 4 days
In the event that the preliminary games do not produce a definite result, as per FIDE regulations we will
have a play-off with a 2 round rapid tie-break, followed by blitz, followed
by a sudden death game. Pairings will be based as per FIDE World Cup
regulations

FIDE regulations, there will be
new draw based on the rating of players for Round 2 as per the principles
of Round 1 (ie. Seeding based on rating followed by 1
x 4, 2 x 3 principle). In the event of a tie, then FIDE regulations
for tiebreak (knock out) would be followed.
The Prize Fund wil be distributed
as follows:
Champion x 1 RM 4000
Runner Up x 1 RM 2000
Losing Semi Finalist x 2 RM
1000 each
Losing Quarter Finalist
x 4 RM 500 each

MCF had invited IM Wong Zi Jing
& FM Peter Long to participate, both of whom are unable to play.

Lim Yee Weng & Edward Lee
/ Mok Tze Meng & Ooi Chern Ee will play on 8 & 9 Aug weekend
Nicholas Chan & Evan Capel will play on 15 & 16 Aug weekend.
Mas Hafizulhilmi & Tariq Amru will play after Mas comes back from the Zonals & Europe on
the 17 Sept. Dates to be confirmed later.
All players will be have to sign a letter of undertaking with conditions to conclude the event before
the 31 Dec 2009. Regulations for the match will be given in detail.The event will be FIDE rated.
The matches will be held in the Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Center in Wilayah Lompleks.
